September 13, 2018

Hello families!

We have had another fabulous week filled with fun adventures with new friends!

Important Information:

AM Kindergarten attends school on Friday, September 14th from 8:00am -12:00pm.

This is just a friendly reminder if you haven't already done so please use conference manager to schedule a time for conferences. Please note there will be no classes on Thursday, September 20th or Friday, September 21st. There will be a family picnic on Thursday, September 20th.

Please return scholastic book order forms by Friday, Sept 21st. Or, alternatively, you can order online. Please place online orders by Saturday, Sept 22nd.

Please ensure your child's snack comes to school in a labeled snack bag.

We have had a busy week exploring nature and our school environment. Please note we will be going outside even when the weather is chilly so please ensure your child is dressed appropriately.

Our inquiry work this year will center around the idea of exploration. Currently we are exploring the classroom community, nature and color.

We would love for your child to explore your home for different coloured items that your child can bring back to school.  We will use the beautiful treasures they collect to:

  • Sort by color
  • Expand descriptive vocabulary
  • Discuss concepts of different shades of color
  • Create a color community art piece
  • Talk about what is beautiful and how that might be different for everyone
Please be advised that the beautiful treasures that you send to school will not be returned.  They will be used to create a colour art piece that will be displayed in the classroom.  Please do not send anything of value, or significant importance that you or your child would like back.  Some examples of beautiful treasures that you could send to school include:
  • Crayons
  • Buttons
  • Small old toys
  • Twigs
  • Leaves
  • Beads
  • Scraps of colored paper
  • Ribbon or wrapping paper

Additional Information:

  • Eye See…Eye Learn® (ESEL®) is a program provided by The Alberta Association of Optometrists and the Alberta Government. Through ESEL®, doctors of optometry detect, diagnose and treat eye health problems in children as they enter the school system. Alberta Health Care already covers the cost of comprehensive eye exams for all children in the province. This program takes that one step further by providing free eye glasses to kindergarten students who need a prescription.
  • Did you know? Kids ages 4 – 10 receive a complete pair of FREE glasses once a year on select frames at the Real Canadian Superstore.
We look forward to seeing everyone next week at conferences!
