Playful Kinders: December 6, 2018

Hi families,

We have had another exciting week in kindergarten!

Sibbald U:

Sibbald U is a chance for teacher and student passions to combine and ignite learning in real world exploration. Designed like University courses, Sibbald U will offer students the opportunity to explore different topics and cross curricular competencies such as: thinking critically; identifying and solving complex problems; identifying and applying career and life skills; applying multiple literacies; demonstrating good communication skills and working cooperatively with others.

Students will be able to choose a course based on their individual curiosities and interests. Once the course begins, students from multiple grades will collaborate on a variety of projects and activities. Throughout each course students will have hands on opportunities to collaborate, create and care.

Our first round of Sibbald U for 2018-2019 will be 7 sessions that begin on January 11 and end on March 16. Most sessions will take place on Fridays from 9:30 - 10:30 am.

Forms will be sent home next week regarding Sibbald U choices. Please click on the link to view the courses available. Please note that some courses are not available for Kindergarten children. www.sibbaldu2016.weebly.com

Christmas Concert:

Food donations will be collected at each Christmas concert.
Morning Concert: Wednesday, December 19th at 9:00am
Evening Concert: Wednesday, December 19th at 6:30pm
Children are asked to dress up for both of these performances.
Tickets will go home December 10

Merry Fitness
This week we participated in Merry Fitness! Each day we popped a balloon that had a fitness challenge inside. This week we completed: Reindeer Run, Jingle Jump, Santa Shuffle & Christmas Yoga. Please send in a photo of your child engaging in a healthy habit and it will be added to our documentation board.

We will continue to go outside for movement breaks throughout all of winter (unless it is a "blue day"). Please ensure your child has all of their winter gear ready each day.

We went on a Santa Shuffle (run) and pretended our hula hoops were sleighs!

We challenged Ms. Manser & Mr. Newman to a jingle jump followed by some squats!

Literacy
This week we learned about the letters L, M, N & O. Each day students shared items brought from home that match the letter of the day. Students learned the sounds of the letters and practiced printing the letter (upper and lowercase). We ask that your child bring a matching item for the letter of the day. A new letter will not be covered on Fridays and the letters will go in order.
