Playful Kinders: February 8, 2019

Hi everyone,

We have had another wonderful week in kindergarten!

Blue Days
This week morning and lunch supervision took place inside because of the very cold temperatures. We ask that you please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather each day (jacket, mittens, scarf, hat, boots, snow pants). If your child has lost an item please check the lost and found located near the music room.

Literacy
Please see your child's green zippered folder for their letter/word cards. These cards are specific to each individual child based on their letter/sound/word recognition skills. Recognizing letter names and sounds are the first steps towards reading. If you are seeing your child sounding out letters or they can tell you the sound a letter makes, you can try building CVC (Consonant, vowel, consonant) words to see if they can sound them out (eg: dog, cat, etc). Please practice these cards with your child each day and return them in their folder. As their confidence and accuracy increases I will continue to add more. If your child has had word cards for quite some time support them in writing these words to illustrate their drawings (eg: I am big, I can run). This week students have explored ABCya.com this is a fun interactive and educational website that includes literacy and math games. Have your child show you at home!

Robotics
AM kinders have really enjoyed learning about Ozobots. This week they created maps/obstacle courses for their Ozobot to navigate through. Students completed this activity with a partner and worked on sharing materials.

Exploring Ozobot Color Codes

Valentine's Day
As we do not have school on Valentine's Day students will not be handing out Valentine's cards in kindergarten. On Wednesday we will have fun activities/centers related to sharing, friendship and kindness.

Math
Students enjoyed a new math game called "Race To Fill the Cup." Students were split into partners and took turns rolling the dice and counted out blocks to fill their cup. Children enjoyed the challenge of filling their cup the fastest.
