June 28. 2019

Hello Families,

Thank you for an incredible year!
We had another great week in kindergarten. We watched the talent shows, the end of year slideshows and said farewell to our fabulous grade 6 students.

Many of you have asked about areas to work on over the summer in regards to literacy.
If you have the time have your child continue to practice their sight word cards. The words are listed below if you choose to add additional words to your child's word ring.

Pre-Primer:
a, and, away, big, blue, can, come, down, find, for, funny, go, help, here, I, in, is, it, jump, little, look, make, me, my, not, one, play, red, run, said, see, the, three, to, two, up, we, where, yellow, you

Primer:
all, am, are, at, ate, be, black, brown, but, came, did, do, eat, four, get, good, have, he, into, like, must, new, no, now, on, our, out, please, pretty, ran, ride, saw, say, she, so, soon, that, there, they, this, too, under, want, was, well, went, what, white, who, will, with, yes

Have your child continue to draw pictures and label them (words or full sentences). Ask your child to re-read their work. Areas to consider when supporting your child with their printing include: neatness, letters on the line, letter sizing, finger spaces, sounding out the word using 'kid spelling', rereading their work etc.

Read with your child. Ask them WH questions and have them practice retelling the story in the proper sequence.

Remember to keep literacy activities fun (eg: Bingo, games, apps etc).
