October 4th, 2018

Hi Families,

We have had another eventful week in kindergarten!
Snow, snow and more snow! This week we practiced the dressing routine (eg: mittens on last). Please review the dressing sequence at home with your child to support their independence at school. Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather (coat, mittens, boots, hat, snow pants etc). We will be going outside during all weather conditions. Please label all of their belongings (eg: both mittens, hat, jacket, snow pants, boots etc).

Walking Field Trip Through Our Community
AM CLASSES:

On Tuesday, October 16th, (weather permitting) we will take our kindergarten friends on a walk through our community to learn more about where we live, how our interests bring us together, and how we participate in our community. Children will use a simple map to participate in a scavenger hunt around the school field. Along the way, students will have opportunities to think critically and share personal stories. Both kindergarten classes are looking for two volunteers to help make this trip a success. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible. This field trip will take place during the kindergarten morning, so children will be ready for pick up at the usual 10:50AM dismissal time.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us.

Literacy:
We are currently working on printing our names. Specifically we are trying to ensure all letters are in the correct order, letters are in a neat line and that all letters are similar in size. Working on letter size helps to practice the skills that are required for the legibility component of writing, for future writing activities.

Students are beginning to recognize that the initial letter of their name is uppercase and the rest of the letters are lowercase letters. It is very important that students begin to understand lowercase and uppercase letters, and that each letter has two different ways that it can be written. We will continue to work on this in our ongoing alphabet inquiry.
