Playful Kinders: Thursday October 25, 2018

We have had another great week in kindergarten.

Home/School Communication

Twitter is a useful tool for home/school communication as it provides a daily snapshot of classroom activities, routines and transitions. Twitter allows you to ask your child direct questions (eg: I saw you went on the field trip today, what was your favorite part?).

Classroom Volunteers
Recently, our room parents have sent out information regarding volunteering. We would love to have additional support in the classroom (eg: running a center, classroom prep etc). Thank you to everyone who has already signed up. We look forward to having you in the classroom soon!

Exploration
This week we compared and contrasted pumpkins! Some pumpkins were heavy and some were light. We worked on organizing our ideas in our visual journals (drawing a picture and labeling it).

School Safety
This week had our first scheduled lockdown practice (PM Class). Students did a great job of getting to their 'safe spot' quickly. This safe spot is marked with a visual on the wall so students understand where to sit. When the school practices a lockdown all students find the closest safe spot and sit down quietly and await further instruction. All students practiced sitting in the safe spot in our classroom.

On Thursday afternoon we had a fire drill. Students did a wonderful job staying with the group and moving quickly to the meeting point outside.

Halloween
Students are invited to come to school wearing their costumes on October 31st. We ask that props and masks stay at home. Sorting Halloween candy or putting it into a candy pattern would be a fun math activity to try at home. Tweet us (@playfulkinders) a picture of your child's candy sort or candy pattern.

Centers
We had so many fun new centers this week!
