January 10, 2019

Welcome back families!

I hope you all had a lovely break and are ready for 2019! We have hit the ground running in Kinder and are fully back into our normal routine. This week in centres we played with Lego, dinosaurs, puppets, sand table, melted snowmen with vinegar and wrote words using magnetic letters.

Sibbald U:
Each week, typically on Fridays, we will have Sibbald U from 9:30 - 10:30am. The course your child has been placed in was sent home on Tuesday. They will go to this course every time they are at school for Kindergarten. Remember to check in with your child to see how things are going in their course. There are some super fun ones so I am sure we will all hear stories! If you would like to volunteer for Sibbald U on the days your child is present, we would love your help! Janessa and I are running Lego Dacto for Grades K-6. Otherwise, I am sure you can volunteer in the course your child is in.

Report Cards:
Thank you to those families who have already returned their envelope. If you have not already done so, please return the white envelope that the report card came home in. We will reuse this envelope in June.

Robotics Unit:
We will be beginning our Robotics residency with Mr. Newman during the weeks of Jan. 14 - 25 for PM Kinder and Jan. 28 - Feb. 8 for AM Kinder. We will have approximately eight sessions and will be working with the Ozobots that our Parent Council so generously purchased for our school. If you would like to learn more about these robots, please check out their website: https://ozobot.com/. They look super cool and we are excited to learn more about them. If you would like to volunteer during these times, a Signup Genius will be sent out. Please contact our Room Parent for more information.

Literacy:
We are quickly coming to an end to our Alphabet Inquiry that we began way back in November. As the letters become more challenging at the end, if needed, please help your child find an object that contains the letter of the day. Ex: X - box.

Monday, Jan 14 - W
Tuesday, Jan 15 - X
Wednesday, Jan 16 - Y
Thursday, Jan 17 - Z

Students continue to work on printing their name neatly and are reminded to use the appropriate case letters. Please review this with your child at home. Students should also continue to work on lowercase letter recognition and sound recognition.

Hand Washing:
We did a lesson on hand washing and used a ball with "Glow Germ" powder on it to demonstrate the spread of germs. Ask your child about this experience and what they learned.

Have a great weekend!
