January 10, 2019

Hello & welcome back to kindergarten in 2019!

I hope you had a wonderful break filled with family, friends and relaxation. We have had another great week filled with excitement and joy! Students were excited to see their friends and participate in the daily routines.

Literacy
This week we learned about the letters T, U & V.  Each day students shared items brought from home that match the letter of the day. Students learned the sounds of the letters and practiced printing the letter (upper and lowercase).

·       Monday, January 14 -W
·       Tuesday,  January 15 - X
·       Wednesday, January 16- Y
·       Thursday, January 17 – Z

Following our alphabet exploration we will continue our literacy journey and spark new wonder through a Superhero inquiry. Here students will learn about a new superhero each letter day (eg: A is for Aquaman). Students will revisit WH questions etc. At the end of our superhero inquiry we will have a superhero day where students can dress up as their favorite superhero or create their own costume.

Students continue to work on printing their name neatly and are reminded to use the appropriate case letters. Please review this with your child at home. Students should also continue to work on lowercase letter recognition and sound recognition.

Report Cards
Thank you to everyone for returning their signed report card envelope. If you have not already done so, please return the white envelope that the report card came home in, as it will be reused in June.

Sibbald U
Students are so excited to begin their Sibbald U courses. Each week, typically on Fridays, we will have Sibbald U from 9:30 - 10:30am. They will meet new friends, new teachers and explore new places around the school. Be sure to ask your child about this exciting adventure.

Robotics Unit
Exciting inquiries are always happening at Andrew Sibbald! During January and February we will start to learn about robotics! We will have approximately eight sessions and will be working with the Ozobots that our Parent Council so generously purchased for our school. If you would like to learn more about these robots, please check out their website: https://ozobot.com/
