Hi
Families,
We have had
another action packed week in kindergarten!
Robotics
The
PM kinders loved robotics this week! Ask your child about their Ozobot and
working with their friends!
Literacy
Next week students will start to explore superheroes! Recently we have reviewed kindness, helping and sharing. Students will use their new “Super Journals” to draw and label heroes. They will work on labeling their pictures and will focus on neatness, finger spaces etc. We will use the concepts “create, collaborate and care” to guide our inquiry. We continue to work on printing and letter/sound recognition. Please review letter sounds with your child at home (eg: A says A, A, A). Students are working on printing their name with appropriate letter case usage.
I have attached a “superhero” letter to this email. I’m hoping that everyone will print it or create their own letter for their child and send it an envelope addressed to me as soon as it is complete. Please tell your child it is in their folder and they are to give it directly to me. Each day I will read a different child’s letter to the class to build self-esteem, community and home/school connection. If the template does not work for you please feel free to write your own. When I have read your child their letter I will put it in their visual journal as a memory of their kinder year. Many of our students live with either Mom or Dad. Please feel free to write 2 letters if you would like. If there is someone very special in your child’s life that would like to write a letter (eg: Auntie, Grandpa) please feel free to send those in as well! I am hoping every family will participate to ensure each child is included.
These sentence starters are meant to be specific to your child and inspire a growth mindset.
Examples:
You make others feel special by showing them your big heart. I love that you read to your brother every night. You are showing him to use pictures to find clues when he is reading. Your brother loves spending this time with you because it makes him feel special.
I know that you find hockey challenging. Sometimes it seems hard and you get tired. I am so proud of you when you keep practicing your skating. I am so proud that you are learning to dress yourself and put on all of your own equipment to keep yourself safe.
I am proud of you when I take you to a birthday party and you play with new friends. I know that birthday parties can seem scary when I leave but I am so proud of you when I pick you up and you tell me about the new friends you have made.
My wish for you is that you always try your best. I want you to remember that your best is good enough and that sometimes things are hard but if you ask for help you can do anything.
Math
Students have learned a new math game this week called
“Buzz”… ask them how to play and watch how fast they can count!
Have a great weekend!
