Fire Hall Tour - PM
We are in need of at least one more volunteer for our Fire Hall Tour on Friday, May 24. We will be leaving the school about 9:30am and returning around 10:50am. Please let me know if you are able to assist us on this super fun walking field trip!
Literacy
We have continued our investigation into letter sounds and this week we have discovered /s/, /z/, /u/, /l/, /r/, and the digraph /sh/. We have learned where our tongue should be placed, lip formation and whether it is a noisy or quiet sound.
Math
This week we looked at groups of 4 different shapes/objects and tried to identify which one doesn't belong. For these, there is not one right answer but a strong focus on justifying the answer you have chosen. An example is below. Some may say the grey shape as it is the only grey shape or the hexagon as it is the only shape that is not a triangle. We are working on using the vocabulary and concepts we have learned throughout our year to justify our responses.
Nickle School Reading Buddies
We were lucky to have reading buddies from Nickle School come this week to read with our PM Kindergarten class. Each child in Kinder had a buddy and they picked books from our library to read together. It was so neat to see the books they picked and shared together. What a way to encourage a love of reading!
Volunteer Tea
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered in Kindergarten this year. Your time is truly appreciated. On Thursday afternoon Andrew Sibbald School hosted the annual "Volunteer Tea." Thank you to everyone who attended. We couldn't do all of the fabulous "extras" without your continued support.
Bell Reminders
If you are outside and hear one long bell it is asking us to go away from the school. This signals a lock down in our building. If this happens while we are outside playing, we will begin to walk to the community centre.
If you hear 3 bells, it is asking everyone to come inside the building. We often hear these bells at the end of a fire drill to alert us that it is safe to enter the building again.
