Hi Families,

We have had another great week in kindergarten!

STEM Challenge
The PM kinders enjoyed another exciting STEM challenge. The challenge focused on creating a device that can move a marble without touching the marble. Students found inspiration from everyday structures like mazes and roller coasters.

Challenges included:
1) Build a device where the marble can move on its own.
2) Create a marble mover where the marble moves through a maze
3) Create a marble mover where the marble moves through a tower

PM Class Fire Hall Field Trip
The PM kinders walked to the Parkland fire station and learned about the roles and responsibilities of firefighters. Ask your child the following questions:
  1. Why are firefighters important?
  2. What is a fire safety plan?
  3. What gear do firefighters wear?
  4. What does stop, drop and roll mean?
  5. If there is an emergency what number can you call? (9-1-1)

The AM kinders will be going on this field trip in June.

Navy Presentation
Thank you to Christine Smith who came in this week and spoke to our children about her role in our Canadian Military. We learned so much from her!

Literacy Word Cards
Reading, reading, reading! It is incredible to see how far our students have come. Please continue to send word cards back to school each day. Every child is now taking a book home daily to practice reading. Use this time to explore pictures, ask WH questions and make predictions. If your child does not know how to read the words read to them and show them how to sound the word out and gain clues from pictures within the text.

Shave a Lid Assembly
The momentum is building.... our "Shave a Lid for a Kid" assembly is next Friday (May 10th) at 9:00 am. All families are invited to attend and cheer on our fabulous Sibbald students! Our school goal is $15, 000.... every dollar counts!

Hats On For Mental Health Day
Kinders loved wearing their hats to demonstrate awareness around mental health. We explored the size of our problems. Is it a big problem (elephant problem) or a little problem (mouse problem)? We discussed how we could solve our problems and how to share our feelings. Students shared their "worries" and strategies they could use to manage these worries (eg: talk to an adult, take a deep breath, read a book in a quiet space).

Gym: Badminton
This week kinders explored badminton! They explored safety, serving and tried to rally with a partner.
